Increasingly Bizzare

I really feel I could be cooler. I don't know what's wrong with me. I mean, sometimes I look and I see all the cool looks on Chictopia, and on other people's blogs, and I think: "Wow, I am so inspired. She is so cool. WOW." And other times I look and I think: "Sad. Sad me. Why am I not that cool?"

Hey, I'm grinning, so I can't be that sad. Only, I don't know. I have been told a few times lately online: "I love your casual style." And yeah, I like that. Only, well...I'm casual? Because I had no idea! You see, here, in the real world, in my real world, I am almost always the LEAST casual, the MOST dressed up! Ha! Oh, dear blogging world, I am trying to catch up with you the best I can!

Only, I don't want to "catch up". What I want is to do, well, what I want! The other day I read this really great blog on style by Second Skin Why Wait?. It really got me thinking: why do I always "wait" until I have seen others do what I want to do?

I mean, as it stands, wearing tights with shorts is "out there" for the town I live in. So why not go even further out there? Why not make something up? Why not just dress how I have always wanted to dress?

I remember the first time I wore skinny jeans. The girls at work gawked at me and claimed they would "never wear skinny jeans". Not even a year later and you couldn't find a flared jean among them (AND, get this- they're all younger than me and thus SHOULD be hipper). I remember the first time I tucked my jeans into my boots and my brothers mercilessly made fun of me (not that I minded, this is what brothers are for).

But the point is, these were acceptable, "in style" styles at the time. And my hometown homies weren't up wid it (is that slang? I'm really lame when it comes to slang--I need a personal slang stylist!).

So yeah. Basically I've decided I'm going for broke (that is slang, I know that for sure!). This is an outfit that I had been thinking about for awhile. I haven't seen anyone else wearing tights with capris, so I was like, um...maybe not. But I missed my capris! And I've been having a hard time finding something to go with these tights (when worn with short skirts they scream: LEGS!! LEGS!!). So yeah.

Expect to see increasingly bizarre outfit posts here on in (though who knows, maybe my increasingly bizarre is tame--I mean, if my dressy is casual!. ;-)

outfit details:

capris, jacob: $15
shirt, thrifted: $2
bow, from an old shirt or skirt, not sure
shoes, naturalizer: $30
tights, sterling: $8

Heart: Kimberellie

  1. Oops, now I feel bad for calling you casual :D. I didn't really mean it that way though! I think you have a really interesting and unique look, I just have a tendency to use casual for 'anything involving trousers' because I hardly wear them myself XD.

I am always overdressed to a ridiculous level for the town I live in *sighs*. But then again, I'm pretty casual compared to a lot of stylish people.
... In the end, it's all about wearing what YOU want, I guess XD.

Okay, so aside from my rambling: I like this outfit! Haven't seen tights with capris yet either, but it totally works in this outfit :D.

  2. I totally agree with you! I live in suburbiaville, Kansas, and trends seem to hit us here a bit late. I, too, bought "skinny jeans" when all of my friends swore they'd never wear them. Now, of course, they are a must have for everyone. But the older I get, the less I care about how "weird" people around here think my style is. So, keep rocking those tights with capris. I love it!

  3. I think the tights are very cool.

I worry because I can't seem to NOT dress casually. But getting dressed up, to me, means wearing awkward things I don't want to wear, like heels. I've always admired people who do their own thing and don't worry about it. To me, that's real cool and style.

  4. i really like this look! it's very classic, and while it is simple, it couldn't be called casual. the red lipstick complements the black&white color scheme perfectly. it reminds of cabaret.

i've never been called "casual"--people usually make fun of me for wearing stiletto heels in the snow--but that's what i like to wear, so i wear it despite the fact that it makes no sense! it's all about what makes you feel good, personally. if people raise their eyebrows at you, so be it. in a couple of months they'll probably be copying you.
