Kindle

Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle. Kindle.

I want one.

Do you?

Some people I know DON'T want one. Not because they are crazy (though some of them are crazy) but because they have a thing for books. I have a thing for books too, but not a whole paper crumpling, page turning, "book sniffing",* thing. I mean, I like sniffing books as much as the next person. But come on! Thousands of books available INSTANTLY?

You see, what I like is what is IN books. I don't carry what sort of pretty packaging surrounds a story. I just want the story (though the Kindle is some pretty fine packaging).

The Kindle would enable me, Kimberellie, to read any book I want in 60 seconds. No more groaning over having nothing to read. No more having to run to the bookstore. No more owing the library hundreds of dollars (four hundred to be exact).

All the books I want at my fingertips. Sigh. Kindle.

I want one.

HEART: Kimberellie

*the reasons why "some people" don't want a Kindle.

  1. Yikes, I'm afraid I'm one of those obsessive book-sniffing types (they just smell so good! haha)

While I admit it can get annoying lugging around a book sometimes, I just don't think it can be beat.

  2. there are also pretty covers for a kindle. They are advertised all over the subways ... the ads made me want them less, you however make me want one more...hmmm.

  3. I am one of "those people"; books are real and therefore more satisfying. But the kindle IS awfully shiny. I could see favouring one over library books (I too am in bad, or perhaps it's good, with the librarians. I tithe to them on a regular basis).

Now...if they made waterproof kindles that you could take in the bath (and perhaps even the ocean...) THEN I would be sold. Papery goodness is a liability in water. And in fire but I don't hang out there.

  4. Myshkin, you are MOST CERTAINLY the "one of those people" I was referring too. Though it seems like you have company. I've convinced about fifty percent of the people I have talked about it to that they need one. The other fifty percent are like you: they like to sniff books.

  6. My suspected problem with Kindle (since I have done no real research) is that I love buying second hand books. Can you buy second hand Kindle books? I want to buy my Maeve Binchys cheap. thoughts?

  7. Oh, I DESPRATELY want an ebook reader. Not neccesarily the Kindle, though. I didn't get one for christmas because Steven said there are better ones coming out soon. I don't know if I care about the better ones, and my birthday is in one month and two days. (I want one!) I am not a book sniffing type person. I am a book reading type person, who hurts herself by carrying around too many books in her purse at once. An ebook reader will not replace all books for me, it will be like my ipod. Most music I download, but sometimes an album is just SO good that it warrants purchase of the physical CD itself. I will still have a book collection. I will always have a book collection. But an ebook reader will make my book collection much better, as it won't be full of books that I'll never read again but can't throw away because they are my books and I love them:) haha. Yes. ebook readers. I want one!

  8. There is a big fat rumor going around that the next thing from Mac will be a wee tablet computer running off the Touch engine that will blow away all ebook readers and feature all those crayzee iPhone apps too... I'm waiting...

  9. Yeah, I have considered waiting too. I would hate to get one and than three months later have something super duper amazing BETTER come out.

It is just the beginning of all this type of technology coming out. So it should just be getting better and better! We'll see!
